Philosophy Of Education
Children are our future...
My goal as an educator is to provide students with the best possible resources in order to be a successful learner. I will use my skills as an energetic, motivated, and dedicated teacher to guide students to reach their utmost potential. Every student deserves a teacher who believes in them and gives them confidence to be creative and take intellectual risks. I believe that building a deeper connection with the students and finding individualized strategies to reach each student is vital for a child’s growth. I am determined to find out what it takes for every student to succeed in his or her academic career. Rita Pierson said in her notorious TED talk about Education, "Every child deserves a champion: an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists they become the best they can possibly be." I will be a role model, hero, and champion in my student’s lives.
Teach them well and they will lead the way...
I believe that in order for students to acquire the most knowledge possible, it is necessary to establish a welcoming, warm, and safe learning community. In my classroom, students will feel free to ask questions and know that they will not be penalized for any wrong answer they may give. If a student does answer a question incorrectly, a positive spin will always be given and the child will be encouraged to it figure out. This may require looking back in the text or thinking critically.
Exploration is the key for a students learning process. Benjamin Franklin said it perfectly, “Tell me, I forget. Teach me, I may remember. Include me, I will learn.” I believe that hands-on manipulatives allow students to grasp the information in a profound way. A way to include the student in the learning process ties into one of the most important things my cooperating teacher has taught me. She stressed to regularly incorporate “why we are learning this?” into my lesson. This question gives the student the motivation to learn and master the skill. The question of “why” is imperative in a child’s learning process.
I will take no less than their best...
The expectation for my students will be set extremely high. I will not take any less than their best. I constantly push my students to be ambitious. It will be required in my classroom to be attentive, alert, and participate in group discussions. I will challenge my students to think beyond the text and exercise critical thinking skills. Challenging my students is crucial for them to acquire knowledge, discover what they enjoy learning, and also what they excel in.
I will have multiple behavior modification systems to keep my students aware of their behavior. There will be chances to be a “star student” so students who go above and beyond what is expected, will be rewarded. In my academic carrier of classroom observations and student teaching experience, I quickly found out that some lessons and behavior modification systems do not fit with every group. It will be my job to find the system my students need so they can learn to their full capacity.
Enthusiasm and positivity is the key...
I believe one of the most important parts of being a fabulous educator is the enthusiasm behind the teaching. Setting the tone of excitement, high spirits, and being animated in all of your actions is necessary for the students to feel the same way about learning the information. A teacher’s sluggish demeanor will produce worn out students, and will provide unsatisfactory work. If an educator is excited and enthusiastic about the subject they are teaching, the students will be motivated to learn and the students will excel.
I will incorporate technology into my lessons, using the SMART board, miniature computers, and hands-on manipulatives to keep the environment lively and interactive. As an educator I will be enthusiastic, and keep the students involved with manipulatives so the students can learn to their full potential.
